Fasting insulin and apolipoprotein B levels and low-density lipoprotein particle size as risk factors for ischemic heart disease. JAMA 1998;279:1955-61
Lamarche B, Tchernof A, Mauriège P et al.

Description of this Publication

Results of the prospective Québec Cardiovascular Study involving middle-aged men provided evidence that a triad of non-traditional metabolic risk factors (i.e., elevated fasting insulin and apolipoprotein B levels as well as small LDL particles) could predict ischemic heart disease risk beyond conventional lipid variables. These results highlighted the potential value of these features of the metabolic syndrome in predicting coronary heart disease (CHD) risk.
