Welcome to the website of the International Chair on Cardiometabolic Risk of Université Laval. By using our website you agree to the following conditions of use, which constitute a contract between the Chair and you. We may change these terms from time to time, in which case, you will always be able to view the most current version of these terms by clicking on the “Legal Notices” link at the bottom of any page on our site.
The Chair releases a range of diverse content produced by physicians, specialists, researchers, and content partners. Please remember that although our site is accessible to the public, it is specifically intended for health professionals. While we hope you find this site helpful, you should remember that it is not meant to serve as a substitute for your own clinical judgment as a health professional. If you are a member of the general public who chooses to use the professional-level information contained on this site, you should not rely on that information as professsional medical advice or use it as a substitute to any relationship with your physician or other qualified health professional. For medical concerns, pertaining to any of the content included on this site, including decisions about medications and other treatments, members of the general public should always consult their physicians or, in serious cases, seek immediate assistance from emergency personnel.
Our content
The content of this site takes the form of information, data, documents, presentations, sound files, photographs, images, videos, and messages. It is designed to help you learn more about abdominal obesity and the concept of cardiometabolic risk. The Chair also lets you publish your favourites through the site (e.g., “Your Bookmarks” ).
We follow a standard set of editorial procedures for information that we put on this site. However, we do not offer you any warranty or guarantee related to our website. We specifically disclaim any warranties, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. If you are a health professional, you should exercise your professional judgment in evaluating any information, and we encourage you to confirm the information contained on our website with other sources before undertaking any treatment based on it. If you are a member of the general public, you should evaluate the information together with your physician or another qualified healthcare professional.
Views and opinions expressed on this site represent only those of their respective authors and do not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of the Chair and/or Université Laval .
User account, password, and security
The Newsletter and Your Page (Your Bookmarks) options require you to create a user account using your e-mail address. This address will also help our webmaster find your password should you forget it. This account is personal and is strictly for your personal use. You may not share it or transfer it to anyone. In creating this account, you undertake to respect the present conditions of use. This is an essential obligation under this contract.
Once your account is activated , you may record or store information in the section “Your Page” , which appears when you have started a session using your e-mail address and password.
You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for the actions taken on behalf of your account and/or with your password. Under no circumstances should you disclose your password to anyone.
General rules pertaining to use and storage
These rules serve to prevent, reduce, or deter the illegal use of site services, which can adversely affect their technical quality. They are designed to circumvent attacks or block the use of services by machines programmed for this purpose. These rules concern the volume and/or size and/or number of content items (e-mails, attachments, messages, photographs, etc.) that can be stored and exchanged using website services. They also stipulate the number of accounts that can be created within a given timeframe.
Communications with users
Our webmaster communicates with users through channels appropriate to the nature and subject of the intended message. Our approach prioritizes contextual help and page warnings in order to help users distinguish official communications from piracy attempts, phishing, or spam.
Partner services
At times, you may be invited to use a service that is provided by a partner (e.g., downloading Adobe Flash from Adobe.com ) and hosted on the partner's website. These third-party services are generally identified and carry the partner's logo along with the partner's conditions of use.
Technical requirements
Minimum browser requirements are Internet Explorer 6.x or Firefox 1.x. To take full advantage of site functionality, the following add-ons are recommended: Flash 8 and Acrobat Reader 6.x.
Privacy policy
Subscription information provided when opening an account and the IP addresses collected by our webmaster are protected in the same way as your personal information.
We use cookies to store session-related information and identify you during subsequent visits.
Cancelling your account
You may cancel your account at any time. To do so, start a session using your ID and password and click the “Close your Account” button.
Cancelling your account will automatically delete your bookmarks and download history. It will also cancel your subscription to our newsletter, if applicable.
2.3 Intellectual property rights
The Chair respects intellectual property rights and asks that you do the same. Should your intellectual property rights be violated through one of our services, we ask you to notify our webmaster . All content, web services, and materials used by the Chair contain confidential information that is protected under intellectual property law.
Linking to this site
The Chair agrees that you may have a simple link from your website to ours. However, you must first ask our permission if you intend to frame our site or incorporate pieces of it into a different site or product in a way that is not clear to our users. You are not allowed to link to us if you engage in illegal or offensive content, or if the link in any way has a negative impact on the reputation of the Chair and/or of any of its affiliates, officers, employees and any content provider to this website.
2.4 Applicable law and jurisdiction
This site is operated by and provided to you by the Chair, which is affiliated with Université Laval and has its offices within the province of Québec, in Canada . This site can be accessed from any Canadian province and from other countries worldwide. Since the laws of each province or country able to acces this site may differ, by accessing this site, you agree with the Chair that the statutes and laws applicable in the province of Québec , without regard to the choice of laws principles, will apply to all matters relating to the use of our website.
The Chair makes no representation that materials on this website are appropriate and available for use in other locations, and accessing them from territories where their contents are illegal is prohibited. Those who choose to access this site from other locations do so on their own initiative and are responsible for compliance with local laws.
You expressly agree that exclusive jurisdiction for any dispute with the Chair, or in any way relating to your use of this site resides in the courts of the judicial district of Québec, province of Québec, Canada, and you further agree and expressly consent to the exercice of personal jurisdiction of the courts of the province of Québec in connection with any such dispute including any claim involving the Chair or its affiliates, officers, employees and content providers.
