Hypertension is one of the traditional modifiable cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors. It is generally defined as systolic blood pressure (BP) of 140 mmHg or higher or diastolic BP of 90 mmHg or higher (1, 2). Normal and desirable blood pressure values should fall below 120/80 mmHg (Table). The prehypertension stage, a new category, is a critical step forward for healthcare professionals by enabling them to take action to prevent their patients from eventually progressing to full-blown hypertension (2).
